Our Clinical Staff

Because CDU’s legal clinic operates out of a fully functioning independent community legal centre, CDU clinical students are supervised by a diverse group of legal professionals and academics.

HRCLS Staff

The HRCLS employs a number of legal professionals and administrative staff, all of whom are directly  or indirectly involved in the operation of the clinic.

 Ms Sarah Rodgers

Sarah is the Supervising Solicitor to CDU law students at the HRCLS. Sarah joined the Hume Riverina Community Legal Service as a family law solicitor in 2009, having worked in private practice since 2004.

When Sarah studied her law degree in Melbourne, she participated in the “Professional Practice” clinical legal education program at Springvale Monash Legal Service. This was the highlight of her law degree and Sarah is extremely happy to be able to facilitate students from Charles Darwin University having a similar opportunity to see the law in practice.

Ms Karen Keegan

A Monash University graduate, Criminal and Family Law solicitor advocate in both private and community legal practice, and Principal Lawyer at HRCLS since January 2011, Karen ’KK’ Keegan was the Supervising Solicitor to CDU law students in 2010, before being called to a ‘higher order’. Karen’s commitment to clinical legal education for law students and law graduates, and the Collingwood Football Club, is undying, bordering on unhealthy. A Queenslander by birth, Victorian by choice and social opportunist whenever and forever, Karen’s contribution to the success of the program, like Sarah’s, cannot be overstated.

Ms Karen Bowley

Karen ‘KB’ Bowley is a practicing lawyer at the HRCLS and was previously the Principal Solicitor at the HRCLS in 2010. Karen is a founding contributor to the clinical program and, like KK and Sarah, is commited to facilitating access to social justice and social justice education through the clinic.

CDU Staff

CDU has two academic staff responsible for various aspects of the program’s administration, and academic supervision of students.

Mr Shaune Williams

Shaune is a Lecturer in Law at Charles Darwin University, a lawyer of the Supreme Court of Queensland and of the High Court of Australia. Shaune is the Academic Student Supervisor and part Program Co-ordinator to the clinic.

Shaune recently presented papers at the Global Alliance for Justice Education / International Journal of Clinical Legal Education conference in Spain in August 2011, and the Transforming Legal Education – Australian National Conference on Clinical and Experiential Learning in Sydney in September 2011, detailing the success of CDU’s legal clinic.

Mr Ken Parish

Ken is a long-standing Lecturer in Law at Charles Darwin University, and is a Barrister of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory and of the High Court of Australia. Ken is part Program Co-ordinator and is a founding contributor to the clinic.

Ken’s enthusiasm for all things related to experiential learning and the use of online technologies to facilitate improved opportunities for legal education, is exhausting to watch.

Mrs Annabel Holliss

Annabel is Special Projects Officer to the clinic. Annabel is responsible for the administrative and logistic aspects of the program and in this regard is the first point of contact for our clinical students. As such, Annabel was recruited foremostly for her super-human patience and tolerance, and thereafter her administrative efficiency and reliable presence.
